Grow Plants in Mini Greenhouse All Year Around

A mini greenhouse is a great addition to any garden. it comes with the extra protection of growing under glass allowing a much wider variety of plants to be raised, and the growing season to be greatly extended. A 4 tier mini greenhouse can give you so much more control over your garden, allowing you to over-winter your favorite plants, grow from seed and take cuttings.

As well as practical advantages, mini greenhouse growing is a most satisfying and relaxing hobby, providing plenty of enjoyment without the full scale commitment of a large greenhouse.

What can you grow in a mini greenhouse?

With a little planning even the most compact of Mini greenhouses can be full of plants all year round.

Spring

In the early spring the mini greenhouse could be full of young plants, growing on ready for later transplanting into the garden. Many garden centers offer tiny plug plants at the very start of the season. These are able to be grown on inside the small greenhouse. Many plants, especially salad crops, can be grown direct from seed, in fact with a mini greenhouse you can look forward to fresh salads pretty much all through the year.

Summer

In the summer, the small greenhouse is capable to be used for protected crops such as tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. As other plants are planted out, the space left can be used for home grown Mediterranean crops.

Autumn

In autumn time cuttings from fuchsias and geraniums can be taken to provide plant material for next year. Salad crops such as lettuce are suggested to be planted in the small greenhouse to ensure a steady supply during the winter months. Vegetables such as spring cabbage can be grown on ready for planting out.

Winter

During the winter months, the small greenhouse can be used to over-winter more delicate plants such as geraniums and fuchsias. Bulbs for winter decoration can also be brought on in the indoor mini greenhouse.

How to Use a Portable Greenhouse to Grow Vegetables

Planning

Measure out your Portable greenhouse beds space. Check if you have enough space out all the summer greenhouse crops you plan to grow;

Benches should provide plenty of space for seedlings. Many seedlings will be moved outside when it is time for summer greenhouse crops;

A catch crop of salad leaves can be sown in portable greenhouse borders before the space is needed for summer greenhouse crops.

Sowing seed indoors

Use clean pots and trays. Also, use fresh, peat-free seed or multipurpose compost;

Follow instructions on the seed packet;

Seeds will germinate on a sunny windowsill indoors. They also love a heated propagator unit in the greenhouse.

Growing on

Once germinated, seedlings will need somewhere light and frost-free to grow on. An unheated greenhouse may not be sufficiently warm until April;

Consider fleecing and heating a partitioned section of your greenhouse. It is helpful to make a suitable environment for growing on tender plants;

Watch weather forecasts. Then you can protect young plants with fleece on frosty nights or provide supplementary heating when needed.

Planting

Plant protected crops into their final positions once they are sturdy and well-rooted;

Plant into greenhouse borders, containers or growing bags;

Ensure climbing plants have sufficient support. And tie cordon tomatoes into strings or canes. Here means cucumbers and melons.

Summer maintenance

Check watering daily.Uneven watering can result in problems such as blossom end rot in tomatoes;

Ventilate greenhouses on warm days by opening doors and vents;

For warmth-loving okra and cucumbers, vents can be kept closed.  However, humidity must be raised by damping down. Alternatively, partition off a section of the greenhouse with fleece or clear plastic;

Some shading will be necessary. It is best to add this gradually, as it will initially reduce growth

Hang yellow sticky traps to provide early warning of pests. Biological controls can then be ordered promptly;

Winter maintenance

Keep structures, especially glazing, clean;

Bubble wrap is sufficient for many structures;

When heated plastic greenhouses, ensure a thermostat is working to maintain a minimum night-time temperature;

Invest in a  thermometer to monitor conditions.

Q & A on Using Portable Greenhouse in Winter

Winter is coming, followed by a series of difficult conditions like rain, wind and snow to challenge our plants cultivating. Here lists some frequent questions when you using portable greenhouse for winter. Hopefully they can be helpful.

Q: Do my Quictent greenhouses need any care and maintenance?

A: Yes,your portable greenhouse will get dirty when you work with plants and soil and from rain spatter on the ground outside. With a low-pressured sprayer, hose down the walls from time to time to get rid of dirt and dust. If mold or mildew has grown, wash with warm water and a mild soap such as dish soap. Before storing your Quictent greenhouse be sure it is clean and completely dry.

Q: How do I control plant diseases in my Quictent greenhouse or mini greenhouse?

A: It’s best to focus on prevention. Begin with disease resistant plants. Do not overcrowd the plants. Remove dead leaves from the plants and soil. Do not over water or keep the atmosphere unnecessarily moist. Ventilate enough to assure air circulation because diseases thrive in stagnant air.

Q: What is the best type of heater to use in my Quictent portable greenhouse?

A: A small ceramic electrical heater works best. There are numerous models on the market but we recommend you look for one with the following features:

Automatic overheat shut off

Thermostat control. This allows you to set your desired temperature and the heater will automatically turn off and on to maintain that temperature.

Humidity sensor. This reads the percentage of humidity in the air.

Heaters of this type are readily available at your local stores. Be sure to use an extension cord rated for outdoor use and always exercise caution when using an electrical device.

Q: Should I let the snow build up over my portable greenhouse during the winter?

A: No. The snow in the city mostly is acid which can erode the cover to some extent. What’s worse, the snow can turn into ice to continuously freeze your plants. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the snow cleared off the top. And for some portable greenhouse with clear cover, such as 4 tier mini greenhouse, it’s more essential to clear the cover to allow the sun to warm the interior of the greenhouse during the day.

Why do We Choose Small Portable Greenhouse

Honestly speaking, if you really do not need to maintain a large garden, you can go for a small portable greenhouse and surprisingly enjoy a lot of benefits. While they have some limitations when pitted against standard greenhouses, many of the advantages are retained and there are additional benefits as well.

Space Saving

Portable greenhouses simply take up less space than other types of greenhouses making them ideal for homeowners that have very limited yard space. It is possible for a narrow area like a patio or rooftop deck to have a portable greenhouse where you can take care of a mini garden. People living in urban locations also have the opportunity to set up a greenhouse if they just think small. Standard portable greenhouses are roughly the same size as camping tents so you can get a good idea on how many plants you can put while saving a lot of space.

Mobile Portability

Ordinary greenhouses are attached to the ground which is why gardeners have to plan ahead for a fixed location. This isn’t a concern for portable greenhouses because you do not have to attach them to the ground. In fact, portable greenhouses are completely collapsible so the only thing you need to do is take out all the plants if you move them out and then move them back in when you relocated the portable greenhouse. This portability is ideal if you want to make sure that your plants are getting the best sunlight possible. The weather can change from time to time so you can take good advantage of this benefit if you have extra space.

Fast Setup

One of the objectives of portable greenhouses is for gardeners to spend more time with their plants. To achieve this objective, many portable greenhouses are designed for quick setup. There are only a few steps to follow and you should be able to set up a portable greenhouse faster once you get used to the practice. Never wait, and it’s high time to invest a portable greenhouse for winter for your lovely plants to get through this cold season. Good luck.

Three Tips for Good Greenhouse Growing

Whether you live in a harsh climate or simply want to grow a delicate crop, you’ll need a protective greenhouse to provide a suitable environment for your production. But adding a grow tent or greenhouse alone won’t necessarily boost your supply. There are a few things every greenhouse owner should do to ensure proper growth environment and maximize yields.

Control the Climate

Sheltering your plants to protect them from the elements is just the first step in the growing process. Even on the coldest days, direct sunlight on the surface of your greenhouse can create a hazardous environment. Use vents, fans, biomass or even a climate control system to ensure proper temperatures depending on the species’ ideal requirements, leaving you in control of the internal temperature at all times.

Too Much Humidity Is a Bad Thing

If you’re already in a humid climate, you’ll need to take measures to keep relative humidity between 70-85% inside your greenhouse. High humidity reduces growth effectiveness, causes early bolting and encourages the introduction of fungal diseases. Venting frequently and reducing the amount of watering is a good way to keep your greenhouse from feeling like a rainforest. If you’re in an arid climate, you can boost humidity levels by regularly spraying water onto the floor of your greenhouse.

Choose the Soil Carefully

Large-scale greenhouse owners often implement their growing system with the soil right beneath the structures while small portable greenhouse owners tend to use benches and individual pots for their plants. Whatever you choose, make sure your plants are getting the right soil. For pots or containers, the soil should be a little lighter and more fertile than ground or garden soils. Use organic potting mixes or homemade potting soil and test the pH levels for the proper acidity before potting.

Follow the above three important points can be helpful for you to make great use of your greenhouse to grow healthy plants and enjoy the wonderful yield.
